A Look at Jet Band Saw Tools

There are many great brands out there when you are looking band saw tools for your workshop. It doesn’t matter if you are a weekend woodworker or have a shop full of cabinet makers, there are bound to be some great band saw tools that will be just right for the job.

This week we took a look at the brand “Jet” and are going to show you an array of band saws for every class of woodworker. They have everything from inexpensive band saws for under $1000 to the top of the line ones that will set you back almost $3000.

JET JWBS-14DXPR 14-Inch Deluxe Pro Band Saw Kit

Although this is a small band saw with a maximum blade width of ¾” it does state it has a resaw capacity of 12 inches. Personally, I doubt you can do that with this saw, but it does feature a high-tension spring design which will give you some added capacity, though probably not enough to be sawing through some 12 inch hardwood any time soon. But if you need a great saw for handling in the 8-10 inch width range, this one should do the trick quite easily.

It comes with a poly V-belt drive in two speeds: 1500 and 3000FPM and has a 15” x 15” table which can tilt 45° right and 10° left, giving plenty of versatility for a relatively small handsaw tool setup that has a 1.25HP motor. Although a dust collector is not standard with this saw, it does have a 4 inch dust collection port and you could connect it to a dust collector with at least 300 CFM of suction. The saw blade width minimum is 3/8 inch and the whole band saw weighs in at 243 pounds.

JET JWBS-16B 16-Inch 1-1/2 HP 1Ph 115-Volt Wood Band Saw

This is one of the mid-range saws from Jet and is probably the more versatile of the bunch. It has a 1.5 HP single-phase motor and runs on your choice of either 115 or 230 volts. The resaw capacity for this band saw is 10 inches and the setup and design is very similar to the 20 QT-5 model.

It comes ready to go with a 2-speed 2000/3300 FPM poly-belt drive and a cast iron table that measures 17 inches square. The band saw tool features include a foot brake, upper and lower ball bearing guides, cast iron trunions, locking cabinet doors, a blade-tensioning gauge, a T-square rip-fence with a resaw post and single knob tracking. In addition, the band saw tool’s entire design is very stable due to its triangular shape that provides the user with rigid column stability.

The re-saw capacity for this band saw is 12 1/4 inches and the setup and design is very similar to the 20 QT-5 model.
